Affected regions / cells: Admin, Checkout, POS and Apps are separate components. One theme app failing is not Checkout.
2. Known bug — is a fix date published?
No known bug with a published fix date right now.

3. Plain-English workaround
From experience
If checkout 5xxs, read the component list before you rebuild the theme. POS offline mode exists for a reason — use it. Admin being slow during a flash sale is not always an incident.

Vendors do not publish one shared dependency map. This list is the upstream tools we watch with this service.

Admin, Checkout, POS and Apps are four different patients
We poll shopifystatus.com (status.shopify.com). One theme app failing is not Checkout. Admin being slow in a flash sale is not always an incident. Shopify has long run on Google Cloud; storefronts often sit behind Cloudflare. A Cloudflare PoP issue can look like "Shopify is down" for one country.
Splits that save you from rewriting the theme
- Checkout 5xx, admin fine. Read the Checkout component. Do not publish a theme to "fix" a platform error.
- POS offline, storefront fine. Use POS offline mode. That is why it exists.
- One shop, not the other shops on the same till account. That shop's apps, domain, or a local network.
- Checkout customisation just published. Roll it back before you blame Shopify.

Domains, TLS, and the checkout app
A domain that expired, a TLS cert Shopify cannot provision, and a checkout UI extension that throws on one market look like platform downtime. Check the domain settings and the last app publish time. Markets and translations fail per market, not globally.
Shopify Payments vs a third-party gateway: if the gateway is dark, Shopify Checkout can still be up. Official status: shopifystatus.com.
