Teams outage status today: public incidents, call-quality vs outage triage, Azure upstream, and workarounds.
1. Is it down right now?
Microsoft Admin Center public RSS. It is updated when admins cannot open Service health — not a full Outlook/Teams/SharePoint outage board. Check the official page and your admin centre.
Affected regions / cells: Call quality is regional. A UK office can have frozen video while US chat is fine. That is usually the WAN or a local proxy, not a global Teams outage.
2. Known bug — is a fix date published?
No known bug with a published fix date right now.
No open incident in the last successful fetch.
3. Plain-English workaround
From experience
If chat works and calls do not, it is media (UDP 3478-3481, the local firewall, or a cheap Wi-Fi AP), not a chat outage. Switch the call to the phone app on LTE. If nobody can sign in, treat it as Entra. Clear the Teams cache before you reimage the laptop.
4. Upstream or scheduled?
Vendors do not publish one shared dependency map. This list is the upstream tools we watch with this service.
- Microsoft 365 OperationalTeams identity and chat sit on Microsoft 365.
- Azure OperationalMedia often fails when the path to Azure front doors is congested — that can look like a Teams outage.
Upcoming maintenance
No upcoming window in the vendor feed.
Frozen Teams video is usually UDP, not a chat outage
Chat, files and meetings fail independently. If the chat pane is live and the call looks like a slideshow, you are looking at media (UDP 3478–3481, a cheap access point, or a VPN that hairpins media through another country). Official public status: status.cloud.microsoft. Call quality for one user lives in the Teams admin centre, not on a status page.
Messages that are not "Teams is down"
- We're sorry — we've run into an issue. Relaunch. If it is company-wide at the same minute, then check the public board and Entra.
- Couldn't connect to the meeting. Try the mobile app on LTE. If LTE works, the office path is the fault.
- Your organisation hasn't enabled Teams. Licence or policy. Not an outage.
- Recording failed / transcripts missing. Often a stream/compliance workload, not chat. Admins should read Service health for those components.
End user vs admin
Users: chat vs call split, phone app off Wi-Fi, camera/mic permissions. Admins: live call analytics (loss and jitter), split-tunnel the VPN around Teams media, and confirm the user is in the right meeting policy. Clearing the Teams cache is cheaper than a reimage. See Teams calls freezing.
Admin centre vs this page
Call analytics, meeting policies, and whether the user is in Islands vs Teams-only mode never appear on a public status page. We will not pretend they do. If the whole tenant cannot sign in, treat it as identity and check Microsoft 365 plus Entra. If one meeting lobby is broken, it is that meeting or that policy.
VDI and thin clients add another layer: the plugin or the media path on the host. Those failures look identical to "Teams is down" in a screenshot. Test a physical laptop on LTE before you escalate to Microsoft.
