Official status page

Gmail and Google Workspace outage status from Google's public incidents feed, plus MX/DNS triage.

1. Is it down right now?

No currently open incidents in the head of the public incidents.json.

Affected regions / cells: Google's public dashboard is usually global. Tenant-level Workspace issues still sit in the admin console.

2. Known bug — is a fix date published?

No known bug with a published fix date right now.

No open incident in the last successful fetch.

3. Plain-English workaround

From experience

If Gmail web is down and you still have IMAP/SMTP on a phone, use that and stop migrating everyone to Outlook in a panic. If only one domain is failing, check MX, SPF, and whether the Workspace trial lapsed — those tickets outnumber real Google outages.

4. Upstream or scheduled?

Vendors do not publish one shared dependency map. This list is the upstream tools we watch with this service.

  • Google Cloud OperationalWorkspace rides on Google Cloud. A wide GCP incident can show up as Gmail slowness.

Upcoming maintenance

No upcoming window in the vendor feed.

Gmail web is the tie-breaker, MX is the silent killer

We read Google's public Workspace incidents at the Apps Status dashboard and keep items with no end time. Tenant-only issues still sit in the admin console and will not appear here. A single domain that cannot receive mail is often MX, SPF, or a lapsed Workspace trial — those tickets outnumber real Google outages.

Messages that fool people

  • Couldn't reach Gmail. Private window first. If colleagues on other ISPs are fine, it is you.
  • Account disabled / this account is not a Workspace account. Billing or a deleted user. Not an outage.
  • Messages bouncing 550-5.4.1 or 5.1.1. Recipient or MX. Check DNS before you blame Google.
  • Drive or Calendar failing while Gmail works. Google posts per app. Read the product name on the dashboard.

End user vs admin

Users: mail.google.com in Incognito, then the phone app on LTE. Admins: Admin console Service health, MX still pointing at Google, and whether only one OU is broken. Official admin: admin.google.com. Wide Google Cloud incidents can show up as slowness.

Admin console traps

A suspended user, an OU with Gmail off, and a routing rule that dumps mail to a vanished connector all produce inbox tickets that say "Gmail is down". Check Admin console Service health and the user's OU before you post in the company channel. MX at the registrar can change without anyone telling IT.

Takeout and IMAP still work during some web-only incidents. That is a continuity option, not a reason to migrate the firm to another host in an afternoon.
