Slack outage status from the official API, AWS upstream, and the first checks when Slack will not load.
1. Is it down right now?
Official Slack status API currently returns status=ok with no active incidents.
Affected regions / cells: Slack incidents are usually global or named by feature (Apps, Huddles, Files), not by country.
2. Known bug — is a fix date published?
No known bug with a published fix date right now.
No open incident in the last successful fetch.
3. Plain-English workaround
From experience
Desktop app stuck on the workspace picker: the website is the tie-breaker. If slack.com/app loads and the desktop app does not, clear the desktop cache. If nothing loads and AWS us-east-1 is on fire, wait — switching workspace regions is not a self-serve fix.
4. Upstream or scheduled?
Vendors do not publish one shared dependency map. This list is the upstream tools we watch with this service.
- AWS Minor issuesSlack lists AWS as a hosting subprocessor, including in the UK. An AWS us-east-1 event is the first place we look when Slack is globally sad.

Website first, desktop cache second, AWS third
We poll Slack's official API at slack-status.com. status=ok with an empty incident list is Slack saying they are fine. The desktop app stuck on a workspace picker is not that. If app.slack.com loads in a private window and the desktop app does not, clear the desktop cache.
Useful splits
- All workspaces fail, Slack's API is red. Wait. Switching "region" is not a self-serve fix.
- Slack's API is green, AWS us-east-1 is not. Slack lists AWS as a hosting subprocessor. Check AWS, then your DNS and SSL inspection. Corporate proxies that break websockets produce a very convincing "Slack is down".
- Huddles or huddles-only failing. Slack names features. Files, Apps and Huddles are not the same incident.
- One workspace, SSO prompt loop. That is Okta or Entra, not Slack's message bus.

Desktop, mobile, and browser disagree on purpose
The desktop app caches workspaces and tokens aggressively. Mobile on LTE is the clean path. Browser in a private window is the tie-breaker we trust. If those three disagree, you do not have a global Slack outage; you have a client or a proxy.
App directory and custom bots can 401 while channels work. That is tokens and scopes. Slack's status API will stay green. Official API docs sit on slack-status.com; we repeat current.json only.
