QuickBooks Online won’t load or company won’t open
QuickBooks Online blank, spinning, or company won’t open? Browser cache, extensions, rights and Intuit incidents vs a local PC fault.
QuickBooks Online spins forever, shows a blank white page, or lists the company but refuses to open it. Month-end is tomorrow. Someone declares Intuit down. Follow the same discipline you use for any SaaS: prove whether the service is unhappy or this browser session is.
Is Intuit having an incident?
Check the QuickBooks status page (Intuit's official board). Ask another user in the firm to open the same company from a different network. If everyone is locked out and status names QuickBooks Online, park the PC rebuilds. If a colleague is posting invoices while one machine spins, keep reading.
Fast user fixes
- Private / Incognito window with extensions disabled. Ad blockers, password managers injecting scripts, and Grammarly regularly blank QBO.
- Supported browser. Current Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Outdated IE mode and ancient Electron wrappers fail after Intuit drops support.
- Hard refresh and cache clear for
*.qbo.intuit.com/ Intuit domains — stale Service Worker and cached JS cause infinite spinners after Intuit deploys. - Another device / LTE. If the phone works and the office PC does not, the office path or PC is the incident.
- Sign out everywhere / re-auth. Stuck sessions after a password change produce loops. Complete MFA prompts fully.
Company won't open (but the homepage loads)
- Permissions. The user is not invited to that company, or was removed after a role change. An admin re-invites from Company settings.
- Accountant vs company user. Opening from the wrong landing (accountant firm dashboard vs client company) confuses people every spring.
- Subscription / trial ended. Companies in read-only or suspended states open oddly or not at all until billing is fixed.
- Region / data residency. Opening a UK company while signed into a US Intuit identity (or the reverse) fails in confusing ways — confirm the correct .com vs regional sign-in.
- Maintenance on that company after a migration or support tooling — status or in-app banner usually says so.
Admin and IT checks
- SSO / Intuit account. If you federate with Okta or another IdP, a bad assertion blocks QBO while bank websites still load. Trace the IdP.
- Conditional Access / secure browser. Policies blocking third-party cookies or older TLS break QBO embedded flows.
- Firewall / category filter. "Finance" category SSL inspection breaking WebSockets yields perpetual loading. Try a policy bypass for Intuit domains on a test machine.
- Multiple Intuit products. TurboTax cookies fighting QBO cookies in the same profile — separate profile helps.
Desktop versus Online
QuickBooks Desktop company files are a different beast (Database Server Manager, hosting mode, network share). This guide is Online. If someone migrated recently and still tries to open a local QBW file in a browser, redirect them gently.
When to escalate
Contact Intuit support when multiple users and networks cannot open companies, status shows an incident or remains quiet while in-app errors cite service failures, and browser hygiene is done. Have company ID, email, UTC times and screenshots ready. One PC with a broken extension is not a vendor severity-one.

FAQ
- Why won’t QuickBooks Online load?
- Often a browser extension, stale cache, unsupported browser, or network filter. If many users fail at once, check the QuickBooks status page.
- QuickBooks lists my company but won’t open it
- Check user permissions, subscription status, and that you are signed into the correct regional Intuit account. Ask an admin to confirm your access.
- How do I tell an Intuit outage from my PC?
- Try another user, another network, and a private window. Wide failure plus a status incident points at Intuit; one machine points at local cause.
- Does clearing cookies fix QBO spinners?
- Often yes after Intuit releases new front-end code. Clear Intuit cookies or use a fresh profile, then sign in again.
