DocuSign won't load, sign, or open the envelope
DocuSign blank page, envelope won't open, or signing button does nothing? Separate a DocuSign incident from browser, SSO and email-link problems.
The signing email looks fine. The link opens a blank page, spins forever, or rejects the access code. Finance swears the contract is stuck. People type "is DocuSign down?" and forward screenshots to IT. Sometimes DocuSign has posted. Often it is the browser, SSO, a stale envelope link, or a corporate filter eating the session cookie.
Is DocuSign down?
Open status.docusign.com — that is DocuSign's official board. Use our URL checker against the host in your signing link as a second opinion from outside the office. If DocuSign names signing, envelopes or login, stop clearing caches and wait. If status is quiet, keep going. Wide Cloudflare events can coincide with SaaS brownouts; still quote DocuSign's own post to the business.
User checks
- Private browser window. Extensions (ad blockers, script blockers, some password-manager injectors) break the signing iframe. Private windows prove it in thirty seconds.
- Another browser. Edge vs Chrome vs Firefox. Enterprise browsers with forced extensions are frequent culprits.
- Another network. Phone LTE versus office Wi-Fi. If LTE works, SSL inspection or a secure web gateway is interfering with DocuSign's domains.
- Access code and expired link. Many envelopes require an access code from a separate email or SMS. Links expire. Ask the sender to resend the envelope rather than hammering a dead URL.
- Correct account. Personal DocuSign vs company DocuSign. Opening a company envelope while signed into the wrong account produces confusing errors that look like outages.
- Mobile app vs browser. Try the DocuSign mobile app on LTE if the desktop browser fails. If both fail for the same envelope and status is green, ask the sender whether the envelope was voided or corrected mid-flight.
SSO and identity
Company accounts often sign in through Okta or Microsoft Entra. If the DocuSign tile fails but the IdP loads, you have an app assignment or SAML problem — see Okta SSO not working and Microsoft 365 sign-in loop. If MFA push never arrives, fix the factor first; DocuSign cannot complete SSO without it.
Admin causes
- SSO certificate or ACS mismatch. Expired signing certificates take out every employee at once while external signers (who use email links without SSO) still succeed. That split is the giveaway.
- IP allow lists. Some DocuSign accounts restrict admin or sending to known office ranges. Home workers then "cannot load DocuSign" until VPN or the allow list is updated.
- Envelope corrections and voids. A sender who clicks Correct while signers are mid-flow invalidates in-progress sessions. Users report blank pages; audit the envelope history.
- Browser content security / cookie policies. Third-party cookie blocking and strict tracking prevention can break embedded signing on some sites. Test first-party signing via the email link.
- Secure email gateways. Rewritten links in Outlook can break the DocuSign token. Open the original link from a non-rewritten copy or ask for a resend.
What to tell the business
Either: "DocuSign has posted a signing incident — use wet ink or delay until they clear it" or "DocuSign is up; we are fixing browser / SSO / the envelope link for this user." Mixing those sentences creates a second ticket before lunch.
When to escalate
Escalate to DocuSign when status.docusign.com names your region or feature, or when unrelated customers report the same failure. Escalate to identity when only SSO users fail. Escalate to networking when only the office path fails and LTE works. One blank page in a single managed browser profile is not a global outage.

FAQ
- Why won't DocuSign open from the email link?
- Stale or rewritten links, missing access codes, wrong DocuSign account, and browser extensions are the usual causes. Try a private window on LTE and ask the sender to resend the envelope.
- How do I know if DocuSign is down?
- Check status.docusign.com. If it is clear and colleagues open the same envelope, the problem is local or account-specific.
- Why does DocuSign work for external signers but not staff?
- Staff often use SSO. An expired SAML certificate or IdP outage blocks employees while email-link signers still succeed.
- Can a VPN fix DocuSign?
- Only if your office path or IP allow list is the blocker. A VPN cannot fix a DocuSign incident or a voided envelope.
