SharePoint and OneDrive outage status, sync vs service failures, and the first checks an engineer actually runs.
1. Is it down right now?
Microsoft Admin Center public RSS. It is updated when admins cannot open Service health — not a full Outlook/Teams/SharePoint outage board. Check the official page and your admin centre.
Affected regions / cells: Sync issues are usually per-device. Tenant-wide sharing failures are the ones that belong on a status page.
2. Known bug — is a fix date published?
No known bug with a published fix date right now.
No open incident in the last successful fetch.
3. Plain-English workaround
From experience
If OneDrive says Processing changes forever: pause sync, confirm the user is under the file-count and path-length limits, then reset the client. If a whole site collection 500s for everyone, that is Microsoft — open the official page and stop resetting laptops.
4. Upstream or scheduled?
Vendors do not publish one shared dependency map. This list is the upstream tools we watch with this service.
- Microsoft 365 OperationalSharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business are Microsoft 365 workloads.
- Azure OperationalStorage and CDN paths are Azure.
Upcoming maintenance

OneDrive "Processing changes" is almost never a tenant outage
Browser access to the same library is the tie-breaker. If the site opens and the sync client sits on a spinner, reset the client after you check file-count, path length, and disk space. Tenant-wide 500s on a site collection are the ones that belong on status.cloud.microsoft. Sharing-link failures after a security tightening are usually "Anyone" vs "New and existing guests", not Microsoft being dark.
Common client wording
- Processing changes forever. Pause sync, confirm Known Folder Move is not fighting a full disk, then reset OneDrive.
- You don't have permission to upload. Permissions or a blocked file type. One person, not the fleet.
- This site can't be reached on company.sharepoint.com. If colleagues fail too, check Microsoft 365 and Azure. If only you fail, DNS or VPN.
- Files-On-Demand placeholders that will not open. Online-only files with no network, or a filter driver. Not a worldwide outage.
End user vs admin
Users: browser vs client, one library vs all libraries. Admins: Service health for SharePoint/OneDrive, sharing defaults, and whether a recent Conditional Access change blocked the sync app. Official admin surface: Microsoft 365 admin centre.
Sync limits people forget
Path length, 400,000 files in a library, invalid characters, and a disk that reports free space but is actually reserved by Files-On-Demand will all sit on "Processing changes". None of those are tenant outages. Admins should also check whether the OneDrive sync app is blocked by Conditional Access as a non-browser client.
Sharing links that suddenly 404 after a weekend are often a label, retention, or "Anyone" policy change. Ask who changed sharing defaults before you open a Microsoft ticket.
